The FPG Manufacturing Programme is a voluntary, industry-led initiative launched in September 2023 by a consortium of six fluoropolymer manufacturers. It was established to address legitimate questions and concerns about emissions of non-polymeric PFAS residues arising from the fluoropolymer manufacturing process, specifically from the polymerisation aid technology used in production.
The programme sets a new benchmark for responsible fluoropolymer manufacturing in Europe and is designed to lead the way for other manufacturing sites worldwide. Its core objective is to ensure that fluoropolymers are produced with the lowest possible emissions, using state-of-the-art commercially available technologies, while equipping the full value chain with the knowledge needed to handle these materials safely.
The programme is built around three pillars: Emissions Reduction, the Technology Exchange Platform, and Safe Handling. Together, these commitments demonstrate that the continued production of fluoropolymers, which are irreplaceable across many of Europe's most critical industries, and responsible manufacturing are fully compatible goals.
An update setting out progress across all pillars during 2025 will be published in 2026, as the consortium works towards its 2030 emissions commitments.
